Being a bit of an overexcitable ‘Yes Woman’, I know I need to curb my enthusiasm at times and say ‘No’.
Or at least ‘Not Right Now’.
But then sometimes, saying an overexcited ‘yes!’ and diving straight into something new and unexpected is the best and only thing to do!
And maybe, just maybe, something beautiful will come out of it.
When Polina approached me last summer to do some beauty shots of her, we discussed her vision of the session and what I could do to help her make it come true.
We got far planning the shoot, but for various reasons it didn’t go ahead.
Fast-forward a number of months, I was delighted when Polina got in touch again and confirmed that we were good to go and this time it was definitely going to happen!
This session is something quite different to what I normally photograph.
It was a session with a beautiful young girl, keen to preserve her beauty and youth in keepsake imagery.
In Polina’s words - ‘because selfies just don’t cut it!’.
And she is right!
Photography has become so accessible, ever-present cameras have given us a false feeling of successfully documenting our lives, when, in reality, most images you’ve taken with your phone, will probably never leave your phone. I mean, where are the photos you took with iPhone 4?
So, the brief I got from Polina was to find a ‘beautiful interior space’ and create a set of portraits of her in it.
I couldn’t have been more lucky to stumble across this fantastic boutique apartment in Aberdeen on Airbnb by the amazing interior designer in Aberdeen Pam.

She is such a natural beauty and so relaxed on the set, the time spent photographing her just flew by and we got so many gorgeous images as a result.
